Scotland Itinerary

September 29-Oct 8, 2020 - 10Days / 9Nights 

Please note the itineray below has  the dates that I propose to operate the Scotland  tour. The departure date may have to change by a day or two subject to the release of  Westjet's flight schedule  in  Novemeber 2019.. If you book the tour prior to the date being finalized you will be notified  of  revised date.  If the revised date does not work for you then a refund of the deposit will be made .

Day 1 – Halifax to Glasgow  

Sept 29

  • 10:50  PM - Depart on WestJet from Halifax


Day 2– Glasgow to Edinburgh    (B, D)

Sept 30

  • 8:10 AM - Arrival at Glasgow  airport and customs check
  • Depart airport and stop for breakfast on route to Edinburgh.
  • Continue on to Edinburgh arriving at your hotel at around 1pm. Check in at 230 pm. If rooms available earlier then we will access as rooms become available
  • 5:30 PM - Meet in hotel lobby for our welcome to Scotland reception and dinner

​Day 3–Edinburgh city tour plus the castle and free time (B,)

Oct 1

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • Depart for Edinburgh city tour including new town, old town and Leith. 
  • After lunch you will get a guided tour of Edinburgh Castle.
  • Following castle tour you are free for the balance of the afternoon and evening  for great shopping , museums or exploring

Day 4  Edinburgh, Callander, Glencoe (B, D)

Oct 2

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • Departing Edinburgh we travel towards Stirling for a brief stop and are now in Rob Roy Mac Gregor territory . We stop in the picturesque town of Callander for lunch and a short bit of shopping.
  • In midafternoon we will arrive in the famous region of Glencoe. We will visit the excellent interpretive center before we arrive at our hotel for the overnight. ​

Day 5–Glencoe, Fort William, Roy Bridge, Inverness (B, L, D)

Oct 3

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • Make our way to Roy Bridge hotel where a local crofter (farmer ) Ronnie Campbell will guide us through the history of the area including  the historic Cille Choirill church as well as Glen Roy look off .
  • Lunch in Roy Bridge followed by a distillery tour at Ben Nevis Distillery.
  • Turning north we travel in the A82 past Loch Ness and arrive in the picturesque town of Inverness our home for next two nights.

Day 6 – Inverness –Culloden –free time (B,)

Oct 4      

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • We will depart the hotel and travel to Clava Cairns an ancient prehistoric site on a gravel terrace above the River Nairn. 
  • Next stop is the Culloden Moor Battlefield and Visitor Centre. This area is immortalized as a turning point in the history of Scotland .The interpretive center, with excellent audio visual takes you through the Jacobite rising of 1745 which ended on this moor in April 1746. Lunch will be taken in the restaurant at the Culloden Interpretive Centre.
  • In midafternoon we will be back in Inverness where the rest of the day and evening are free. You have many options. A walk along Caledonian Canal or visit the Highland Archives center in Inverness, or a visit to the city center for shopping and sightseeing. 

Day 7 –Inverness –Eilean Donan Castle –Isle of Skye (B,)

Oct 5

  • Include hotel breakfast
  • We bid goodbye to Inverness and drive along the banks of the Loch Ness.  There will also be a short stop at the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre Leaving the A82 we swing on to the A87 heading towards the Isle of Skye.
  • We stop for lunch and a tour of Eilean Donna Castle just before we cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery there is stories falling from its walls.
  • Leaving Eilean Donan Castle we cross the bridge and arrive on the Isle of Skye and proceed down to Sleat to the Hotel Eilean Iarmain  our home for the next two nights,
  • Have supper in the onsite pub a popular spot for locals and visitors.

Day 8 – Portree –Cullin Hills –Clan Donald Center (B, D)

Oct 7

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • We travel north for an hour to the picturesque town of Portree the largest center on the Isle of Skye where there will be free time for shopping and lunch.
  • Both travelling to Portree and leaving Portree we will pass through the majestic Cullin hills that are famous for hiking and amazing photo opportunities.
  • Returning to the south of Skye we arrive at the Clan Donald center, historic grounds of Clan Donald the most powerful clan in Scotland.
  • Leaving the Clan Donald center we will then stop at Sol Mor Ostaig the Gaelic College on Skye for a brief introduction to the college and its storied history.

Day 9 – Arisaig-Moran Glenfinnan-Glasgow (B, L)

Oct 8

  • Included hotel breakfast
  • We travel to Armadale for a 40 minute crossing on the ferry to Mallaig.
  • We have some brief stops in the village of Morar and Arisaig for photos and a walkabout
  • Next up is the Glenfinnan visitor center and Jacobite monument. Learn about where Bonnie Prince Charlie came ashore as he started his mission to reclaim the throne for the Stuarts. After a full day we now settle in on our coach for our journey to Fort William and then down for overnight at a convenient Glasgow airport hotel for an overnight.

​Day 10 – Glasgow airport –Halifax (B)

Oct 9

  • Early morning  to Glasgow  Airport where we take our WestJet flight to Halifax
  • Flight departs at 930 am and arrives in Halifax at 1145 PM.
